Its been ages since I've done a solid commute. Its one of those things that I'm thankful I can do, but I'm even more thankful that I don't have to do anymore. Today however, Dad was unavailable to pick me up due to an obligation at work. Lucky for me, I was coming from Bulacan and my colleagues were nice enough to drop along Libis, the nearest stop for me. With the strong rains on and off during the day, this was the not the best time to be not having a ride home.
I had to cross a pedestrian overpass first. But with jeans and sandals wet, I had a hard time walking and balancing plus taking control of my umbrella and shielding my bag. Plus it was all metal and I know, I could slip anytime. I wanted to get home fast since the rains might flood my way again.
The walks to the two (2) kinda far tricycle stops were not as bad. I just realized how much in bad shape I was! I'm a slow walker by nature but tonight, I could see other commuters over take me and I could only shake my head. I was breathing hard like I was in a workout. Tricycles came fast and I waited no longer than 10 minutes each stop. Over all, I got home after 45 minutes which was not totally horrendous, considering how strong the rains were. Not as much traffic. My jacket, lower part of the jeans and sandals being wet were my only casualties.
Hat's off to my friends, relatives, colleagues and to you.. who commute everyday. I know it only takes getting used to but all my commuting experience came back to me.. it was as hard then, and even harder when its raining. The things I rediscovered?
a) Be Aware - you have so much to look out for! You, your things, other people, people nearest to you, where you're walking (because I stepped on a major pool of water) and of course, the vehicles.
b) Patience is a virtue - no choice but to wait for ride to arrive and to wait for your turn
c) Be Prepared - I used to ready my fare on hand or place it somewhere I can reach fast. Last night I had to juggle my things for my wallet to get some change. Psh.
d) Its a daily workout - the walk, the standing, the jostling for position can do your body good. Bottomline, I HAVE to exercise already
e) Suffer in silence - I so wanted to complain but I couldn't. Hence this blog.. hehe :)
Best thing about the day, its Friday, Nanay C prepared my favorite veggie viand - ginisang sayote leaves for dinner and Busy Boy giving me a hug. Thank goodness I'm home :P
